We’re less than a week away from the official release of the Doom of Dimensions expansion on September 26th. With some new, and modernly competitive, cards being added to the D/D archetype’s arsenal, the second-hand market is reflecting the movement of niche fans as they get ready to field test one of Yu-Gi-Oh’s most convoluted archetypes to pilot.
D/D Count Surveyor

D/D Count Surveyor has been enjoying positive market trends in the last month. Over a thousand copies had exchanged hands over at the second-hand market. According to the market analytics provided by TCGplayer, the price of D/D Counter Surveyor had jumped twice since the end of August.
The first price jump happened around the first week of September, where copies went from a $5 price average before doubling to a $10 average over the course of a week. After a couple of days of the market fluctuating back a couple of dollars, the second price climb happened over the course of September’s second and third weeks. Prices of D/D Counter Surveyor practically doubled once again as interested buyers are now paying about $16 to $20 for copies.
D/D Count Surveyor has only seen a single print run so far. This was during the release of the Battle of Legends: Monster Mayhem expansion back in June. If D/D decks manage to find some foothold in the tournament scene after the release of Doom of Dimensions, we can see D/D Count Surveyor’s market average steadily climb higher in the long run due to the potential lack of supply.
A Line of Interaction
D/D Count Surveyor is a pretty powerful addition to any D/D deck. As a combo starter, D/D Count Surveyor can special summon itself, can seed the graveyard, can search out another D/D monster card, and can potentially go into different extra deck monsters within reason.
With just a basic pairing of D/D Count Surveyor with D/D Swirl Slime, the controlling player will have a play line into D/D/D Flame High King Genghis. As long as the controlling player can activate D/D/D Flame High King Genghis’ ability, this fusion monster can recycle D/D Count Surveyor and can easily bring out Number 90: Galaxy-Eyes Photon Lord as the first line of defense against potential monster hand traps. This is assuming that the player wants to preserve their copy of D/D/D Sky King Zeus Ragnarok for later on in the duel.
Mileage for D/D Count Surveyor will vary from player to player. Some may like the fact that D/D Count Surveyor is easily searchable and can just as easily bring other cards into rotation. This is the kind of card advantage that can easily put D/D Count Surveyor at three copies.
Other players may only run a single copy of D/D Count Surveyor just because it can easily extend into another D/D play line without much resource investment. Regardless of how D/D Count Surveyor is viewed, though, there’s no denying its place in modern D/D decks.
