The Doom of Dimensions expansion for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game (TCG) has finally made it to Western shores. Yu-Gi-Oh! enthusiasts left and right are opening packs and boxes, flooding the second-hand market with new products. It’s time to see what the best sellers are from amongst the new cards of this set.
D/D/D Zero Doom Queen Machinex (Ultra Rare)
Average Price: $7
This card is one of the latest additions to Yu-Gi-Oh’s most convoluted-to-use archetype. D/D/D Zero Doom Queen Machinex is one of the best combo pieces an archetype can ask for. The controlling player can easily use this card at any part of the combo, just because it can search out any of the supplemental Dark Contract cards without needing any prior setup.
This pendulum monster also comes with a host of other amenities. Being a difficult interaction point once face-up in the extra deck, coupled with a recursion package and non-targeting on-field pop (destruction effect), makes this card an auto-include at maximum copies for D/D decks as a whole.
Thankfully, copies of this card are only going for about $7 a piece. Possibly thanks to the D/D archetype’s rogue status in the competitive scene, a full playset of D/D/D Zero Doom Queen Machinex at this price point isn’t so bad for interested players. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for this card’s Starlight Rare variant, which is demanding an asking price of about $90 a piece on average.
K9-04 Noroi (Ultra Rare)
Average Price: $17
K9-04 Noroi fills the slot of normal summon fodder in an archetype filled with special summon capabilities. This card not only has the capability of bringing out another body under some of the more common hand traps, but it can also allow its controlling player to take a sneak peek at the opponent’s hand for some valuable information. The latter really pressures the opponent to spend a negation if they don’t wish to reveal what they have in hand.
Players still sticking to K9-Vanquish Soul decks, despite the current hits to the latter archetype in the recent ban list update, have been running K9-04 Noroi at maximum copies. The $17 average price per copy is a veritable steal compared to the Starlight Rare variant, which is already pushing to near $100 each.
Dracotail Phryxul (Secret Rare)
Average Price: $20
Dracotail Phryxul is a solid piece to add to any Dracotail deck. This card isn’t necessarily a must-have in the deck, nor is it a powerful combo starter, but players can easily slot in a single copy for some stable redundancy when playing in a grind game.
The controlling player can pair Dracotail Phryxul with Dracotail Lukias to get another body onto the board. If access to an extra fusion monster is needed again, then a pairing with Dracotail Faimena can be done. This is still on top of the search functions that each of these mentioned Dracotail monsters can do for their backrow cards, like Ketu Dracotail or Rahu Dracotail.
Secret Rare versions of Dracotail Phryxul are currently at around a $20 asking price, but some merchants can be found pushing a $30 price tag. The Starlight Rare variant, on the other hand, is pushing anywhere between $90 to $100 depending on the price listing.
Dominus Spiral (Secret Rare)
Average Price: $22
Dominus Spiral is the newest hand trap to grace the Yu-Gi-Oh! card pool. This card may not be as powerful as its siblings, Dominus Impulse and Dominus Purge, when it comes to negating a card effect, but Dominus Spiral allows the controlling player a flexible tool to get around most protection effects while bouncing a monster back to the hand or extra deck. The latter zone can be particularly devastating to recover from if the targeted monster is difficult to bring out in the first place.
The only downside to Dominus Spiral’s capabilities is two-fold. If not piloted with awareness, the controlling player is essentially giving back a free body to the opponent. There’s also the Dominus trap card trademark of locking out effect monsters of certain attributes for the rest of the duel, but a skilled deck builder can easily take this into account.
Decks using Dominus Spiral easily run 2-3 copies per deck despite these built-in issues. Secret Rare copies of Dominus Spiral are available at a market average of $22 for players interested in a more budget-friendly Dominus trap card for the deck list. Dominus Spiral also has a Starlight Rare variant, but that would require a bigger budget, as merchants are asking anywhere between $60 to $90 a piece.
Marshmao☆Yummy (Secret Rare)
Average Price: $63
Marshmao☆Yummy helps address the issue the original trio of Yummy monsters have, being unable to be special summoned without having an extra deck monster already out on the field. This new Yummy sibling also helps give the controlling player another access point to the powerful in-archetype field spells, Yummyusment★Acroquey and Yummyusment☆Mignon.
These powerful additions to an already dominant archetype, unfortunately, put copies of Marshmao☆Yummy at a $63 price average per piece. The price gouging doesn’t end there, as decks running copies of Marshmao usually want a full set, making the Yummy engine a pretty hefty investment for the time being. For the curious, the Starlight Rare variant of Marshmao☆Yummy is at a $150 to $200 market average, with the occasional odd pricing at nearly $300.
