Every once in a while, America’s biggest fast-food chain offers more than just quick meals to the average TCG fan. Occasionally, you can grab exclusive trading cards from their Happy Meals. Whether it's Yu-Gi-Oh or Pokémon, these are huge additional incentives for collectors to visit the closest golden arches to their home.
It appears that McDonald’s will be starting yet another Pokémon TCG promotion shortly. Themed after the Chinese Year of the Dragon, we know that some places in the world will be getting this promotion in December, but North America remains a question mark.
Pokémon X McDonald's, Year of the Dragon
Pokémon Cards coming to McDonald's seems to be an annual thing at this point. For the past few years, four-card booster packs containing cards randomly selected from about 15 cards were featured in each promotion. We now know that, for this year, this trend will remain the same. Here are the 15 Pokémon you can find in this year's Pokémon TCG X McDonald's collaboration:
- Charizard
- Quagsire
- Pikachu
- Miraidon
- Hatenna
- Koraidon
- Umbreon
- Dragapult
- Hydreigon
- Roaring Moon
- Jigglypuff
- Dragonite
- Eevee
- Rayquaza
- Drampa
Four of these cards will reportedly have a holographic treatment. If we were to guess, we would expect Rayquaza, Dragonite, Charizard, and Koraidon to be the four, but there is absolutely no way to prove this until we see the actual cards.
These 15 McDonald's cards will feature reprints from recent sets, which is normal for this promotion. The four cards that get foil treatments will feature the confetti foiling that is exclusively used in this promotion.
Notably, of the cards known to be reprinted here, they are from all eras of the Pokémon TCG. Expect to see some treatments and art that could evoke some nostalgia from days past.
France is confirmed to start this promotion on December 4. They reportedly tend to have their Pokémon TCG X McDonald's promotions months after North America normally does, but no word of the North American promotion has been heard of. As a result, expect Pokémon cards to appear at your local McDonald's around the Chinese New Year at the absolute latest.
