The Pokemon Company International (TPCi) has finally given the Western market some news for the upcoming paired expansion set, Mega Brave and Mega Symphonia.

Scheduled for release on September 26th for Western markets, alongside new cards and the return of Mega Evolutions, this expansion also aims to introduce a non-gold full art variant of item cards.

This is probably the highest natural health we've seen on a Pokemon in recent memory.

Bulbasaur

Bind Down: 10 damage. During your opponent's next turn, the Defending Pokémon can't retreat.

Ivysaur

Razor Leaf: 60 damage.

Mega Venusaur ex

Ability: Solar Trans

As many times as you like during your turn, you may move a basic grass-type energy from 1 of your Pokémon to another 1 of your Pokémon.

Jungle Dump: 240 damage. Heal 30 damage from this Pokémon.

Spoiler season for the latest expansion commences with new Mega Pokemon.

With an even bigger health pool than the previously revealed Mega Lucario ex and Mega Gardevoir ex, Mega Venusaur ex is balanced by its lower attack output amongst the Mega Pokemon we’ve seen so far.

Venasur does heal while it attacks, though, so opponents would be forced to one-shot this Pokemon or else they’ll be dragged into a contest of attrition.

This will especially be true if a player decides to double down on this healing aspect by having the Tool card, Leftovers, and a Munkidori in the lineup. A consistent 80 health recovery rate each turn can be pretty ludicrous.

Mega Latias ex

There's some niche application for their utility skills, but may either be inefficient or come at a too high a cost.

Latios

Ability: Luster Assist

Once during your turn, when your Mega Latias ex moves from the Bench to the Active Spot, you may move any number of Energy from your Benched Pokémon to that Active Pokémon.

Dragon Claw: 130 damage.

Mega Latias ex

Strafe: 40 damage. You may switch this Pokémon with 1 of your Benched Pokémon.

Mirage Pulse: 300 damage. Discard all Energy from this Pokémon.

The sibling legendary Pokemon of Latios and Latias return with the latter gaining the benefit of having a Mega form.

Latios is presented to be the more support-focused of the two. It offers a form of counterplay to forced line-up manipulation (e.g. Counter Catcher) if Mega Latias ex is moved into the active zone.

While Latios does have a respectable attack value of its own, a player would be incentivized to look elsewhere for their damage output.

In contrast to Latios, Mega Latias ex offers a more offensive-oriented package. This is highlighted by its Mirage Pulse attack. Unless the defending Pokemon is a Stage 2 ex or a Mega Evolution, they’d most likely drop after the first activation.

Mega Latias ex’s Mirage Pulse isn’t without its cost. Its activation would mean discarding all attached energy.

At the moment, there are not a lot of options for Dragon-type Pokemon to counter this discard cost. Unless a solution is found to quickly re-attach all the lost energy, Mega Latias ex might be relegated to clean-up duty when on match point.

Riolu, Ralts, and Kirlia

Time to see the pre-evolved state of the of Mega Lucario ex and Mega Gardevoir (ex)

Riolu

Accelerating Stab: 30 damage. During your next turn, this Pokémon can't use Accelerating Stab.

Ralts

Collect: Draw a card.

Headbutt: 10 damage.

Kirlia

Call Sign: Search your deck for up to 3 Pokémon, reveal them, and put them into your hand. Then, shuffle your deck.

Psyshot: 30 damage.

Thanks to the original announcement for Mega Brave and Mega Symphonia, we’ve already caught a glimpse of Mega Lucario ex and Mega Gardevoir ex. This time, TPCi is gracing us with knowledge of their pre-evolved forms.

This version of Riolu boasts the hardest-hitting attack out of all the legal copies in standard rotation today, all at the cost of a single energy.

While its Accelerating Stab can’t be used consecutively, Mega Lucario ex can easily be given the baton to continue the fight, with how energy-efficient its attacks are.

As for Ralts and Kirlia, the former isn’t as powerful as those found in competitive Gardevoir ex decks currently in rotation. This version of Ralts, however, does come with a card draw to help in the early game set-up.

As for Kirlia, it's less aggressive than its counterpart from Paldean Fates. It does have a slightly higher health pool, but its main value comes from its ability to search for up to 3 Pokemon from the deck.

Not only that, but there’s a distinct lack of parameters for its search function as well. A player could lead with an Ultra Ball into this version of Kirlia and start churning out their entire board by the game’s 3rd or 4th turn.

Interested players would have to be wary when dealing with any early game aggression. As a Stage 1 Pokemon, Kirlia is a very valuable target of opportunity if your main condition is to evolve a Mega Gardevoir ex out as soon as possible.

New Full-Art Item Cards

These card's arent' new to the rotation, but they are a nice touch to a card game where its nice to enjoy a players collection.

We end this list of reveals on the introduction of full art item cards.

This isn’t the first time full-art item cards have been introduced to the Pokemon Trading Card Game (TCG), but this looks to be the introduction of full-art cards that aren’t a gold card (secret rare).

We’re not sure what this would mean for the card’s rarity, but it may lean towards an expanded pool for players and collectors alike to enjoy these well-crafted illustrations.
