The newest addition to the Pokemon Trading Card Game (TCG) has been revealed as the release of Mega Brave and Mega Symphonia steps closer.

A potential 200+ damage off a single energy is a different kind of problem players would have to solve.

Roasting Heat: 80+ damage. If your opponent's Active Pokémon is Burned, this attack does 160 more damage.

Volcano Meteor: 280 damage. Discard 2 Energy from this Pokémon.

Mega Camerupt ex comes in as a very surprising tech choice for Fire-based decks. While the damage for Volcano Meteor is impressive, the original cost plus its discard leaves a lot to be desired.

That said, Ignition Energy and Hilda are coming in White Flare. A cheeky player could use these combination cards to do a quick 280 potshot while still setting up all their tools.

What is getting players’ attention, however, is that single energy cost, Roasting Heat.

With toolbox options like: Volcarona (Black Bolt), Magcargo (Temporal Forces), and Magmortar (Journey Together), Mega Camerupt ex could easily dish out about 290 damage off a single energy. All that is on top of a Stage-1 Pokemon with a respectable 340 body.

It does come with the caveat all Mega’s have of dangling 3 Prize cards for a knockout, but setting up a toolbox of Stage-1 Pokemon could end up being easier than the usual conundrum of energy acceleration.

Drawing two cards a turn is powerful, and this time it's on a Basic-stage Pokemon.

Ability: Run Errand

Once during your turn, if this Pokémon is in the Active Spot, you may use this Ability. Draw 2 cards. You can’t use more than 1 Run Errand Ability each turn.

Rapid-Fire Combo: 200+ damage. Flip a coin until you get tails. This attack does 50 more damage for each heads.

Mega Kangaskahn ex has the same kind of draw power as Gholdengo ex does. Unlike the Metal-type Pokemon, this is a colorless Pokemon. So it can be slotted into any deck that can accelerate any manner of energy types.

There’s also the fact that Stellar Crown’s Bouffalant could also be used to make this already robust basic Pokemon have an effective 360 health pool.

If you decide to go all-in Mega Kangaskhan ex as your win condition, you could underscore how much health this Pokemon has with Bravery Charm and Lively Stadium, tacking on another 80 health for a 440 effective total.

As for its Rapid-Fire Combo, if accelerated quickly, a 200 base damage isn’t too shabby. The new Cinderace that was revealed previously plays well into getting this particular Mega Pokemon online.

On a string of good luck, Mega Kangaskhan could potentially take out even Stage-2 staples like Gardevoir ex or Dragapult ex.

This is highly improbable, but in a card game where luck of the draw can actually affect how a game turns out, relying on a coin flip for a win condition isn’t that far off.

More Single-Prize Releases:

Kyogre (Mega Symphonia)

Unfortunately, Kyogre might suffer in the shadows of the Mega evolutions this set.

Riptide: 20x damage. This attack does 20 damage for each Water-type Energy card in your discard pile. Then, shuffle those cards into your deck.

Swirling Waves: 130 damage. Discard 2 Energy from this Pokémon.

Unfortunately for Kyogre, a lot of players will be comparing this card to Chien-Pao ex just because of Kyogre’s Swirling Wave’s discard effect.

That said, Kyogre could make for a pretty decent catch-up tool if you’re behind on prize cards.

The Single-prize nature of this card can slow down the opponent while you take full advantage of all the energy cards Chien-Pao ex had just seeded.

Garganacl Line (Mega Brave)

From left to right: Nacli, Naclstack, and Garganacl

Nacli

Ram: 10 damage.

Naclstack

Rock Hurl: 50 damage. This attack's damage isn't affected by Resistance.

Garganacl

Ability: Power Salt

Attacks used by your Fighting-type Pokémon do 30 more damage to your opponent's Active Pokémon (before applying Weakness and Resistance).

Hammer In: 130 damage.

The Garganacl introduced in this paired expansion practically screams synergy with either the upcoming Mega Lucario ex or the Mamoswine ex from Journey Together.

An added 30 damage from any fighting just turns this particular Garganacl into a Brave Bangle on legs for Fighting-type Pokemon.

For Mega Lucario ex in particular, anything weak to a Fighting-type Pokemon will end up eating 320 damage from a single energy attack.

As for Mamoswine ex, a player could also run the upcoming Serperior ex from Black Bolt.

Assuming Gargancl, Serperior ex, and Mamoswine ex are the only Pokemon, that’s roughly 310 damage off of 2 Fighting-type energy. That’s pretty fast all things considered.

This leaves only Marnie’s Grimmsnarl and Dragapult ex as the only Pokemon who can take the hit and survive without outside influence on just raw stats alone.

If players are looking for something to bridge that final gap of 10 health, then Premium Power Pro, also coming in Mega Brave, would be just the tool players may be looking for.
