Last week, Konami announced the Power of Fellows structure deck for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Official Card Game (OCG). Containing a wave of retrained cards, with some new ones, it was a good callback for fans of the series.

Now it looks like this item is heading for the Trading Card Game (TCG), and to add to it, it’ll be part of a collectors set to be released on the 7th of November for about $31.99 MSRP.

Legendary 5D’s Decks

It appears the Power of Fellows structure deck will be bundled together with not one, but two other decks centered around the Signers crew, the main group of protagonists for the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s animated series.

With Yusei’s deck already highlighted with the announcement, what caught our eye was that the Yusei-focused deck would have 8 new cards.

We this announcement, we can expect at least 4 more new cards for Yusei's deck.

With 4 of the retrains already revealed last week, that means the TCG is guaranteed 4 more new cards, retrains or otherwise, in this particular deck.

Currently, we don’t know yet if the other two decks to be featured in this collection will have the same number of new cards.

According to the announcement, each deck will contain 40 Main Deck cards, some of which consist of duplicates, and 10 cards for the Extra Deck.

As part of the collection’s marquee feature, each deck will contain a fully legal chibi art card featuring each chosen character’s signature dragon. Alongside this are token cards featuring the same art style for each chosen character.

Some Bait on the Hook

Konami is once again baiting this product with generic deck staples.

Konami is also being a little sly with this collection, as the product page also mentions that popular staples used in the TCG today will be included in the decklists.

For now, Konami has confirmed at least a copy of Mulcharmy Meowls and Infinite Impermence to be in this product.

They did something similar when the Blue-Eyes White Destiny structure deck was announced.

That particular product had a slew of handtrap staples like Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring and Effect Veiler, which allowed new or returning players to grab a full playset if they were willing to shell out the cash for multiple copies of the structure deck.

The Other Possibilities

Konami is making sure to give itself enough breathing room with this product.

The main Signer crew consisted of 6 main characters. With Yusei already revealed, that leaves 5 other choices for this collection to pull from, and each character had a tie-in to a specific archetype.

This archetype would definitely benefit from some modern retrains.

One in particular was Crow Hogan and his Blackwing archetype. When Syncro summoning was the newest extra deck feature, this was one of the more dominating forces to come out of this era.

More of a rogue strategy nowadays, it would be good to see the return of old archetypes to the forefront of the game.

Konami has done well in the recent past by making old archetypes like Blue-Eyes White Dragon and even Exodia capable of standing against more modern archetypes.

We won’t go into speculation now, but fans of this particular series are definitely watching.

There’s at least a subset of fans who’ve found 5D’s story and characters endearing, regardless of their personal take on how a card game was played on motorcycles of all things.
