With the confirmation of Seventh Tachyon included in the upcoming Maze of the Master expansion set, presale season is literally on fire as copies of this card are already hitting wallet-melting price levels.
The Price of Power

Confirmed as a Secret Rare (SR) in the Maze of the Master set, Seventh Tachyon is considered the chase card to run after. And to make matters worse, it comes in two flavors. Seventh Tachyon apparently has a Collector’s Rare (CR) version which will undoubtedly inflate the moment copies start hitting the second-hand market.
At the moment, second-hand market prices over at TCGplayer are putting the standard variants of Seventh Tachyon just shy of $100 for a full playset of three copies. And over at the CR side of the spectrum, playsets of 3 are already moving at about $125. These prices are already rivaling the pre-sale price of an entire booster box set.

For some context, the current best-selling cards in the market like Primite Lordly Lode, Fiendsmith Engraver, and Primite Dragon Ether Beryl command an average price of $66, $52, and $38 respectively for copies of their common variants.
And while their Quarter Century Secret Rare (QCSR) copies can rival - and sometimes outstrip - the current pre-sale price of Seventh Tachyon, their current market trend is starting to show a steady decline. This is especially true for Primite Lordly Lode after it was hinted by Konami that a reprint of the card will be coming in the next Battle of Legends expansion, Monster Mayhem.
But Why The Presale Fever?
With the prominence of the Ryzeal and Maliss archetypes in the competitive scene, Seventh Tachyon comes at a time where it can be considered as a very powerful tool in the arsenal of decks using or facing against these archetypes.

Ryzeal decks and Vanquish Soul can take advantage of Number 105: Battlin’ Boxer and its C-variant to search their combo starters or extenders. The same could be said for Exosisters as they reveal Numbers 104: Masquerade to effectively double their copies of Exosister Martha.
When it comes to dealing with Maliss, Number c103: Ragnafinity can be targeted to get Artifact Lancea from the deck to shut down any banishment plays. That’s assuming 103: Ragnazero isn’t helping Shark decks with other search priorities.
As long as the controlling player’s deck can take advantage of the parameters established by Numbers 101 to 107 alongside their C-variants, Seventh Tachyon is positioned to be one of the most versatile search cards to be released.
As another sticking point, Seventh Tachyon - a search card in itself - can also be searched out due to an archetype sister card, Seventh Ascension. This makes a consistency tool in almost every deck, even more consistent.
With Maze of the Master being the first expansion set to release Seventh Tachyon, its forced scarcity will definitely ensure an upward trend for its price as time moves forward. This will be especially true if it sees success at any upcoming YCS (Yu-Gi-Oh! Champion Series) or WCQ (World Champion Series).
Be on the lookout if you are ever in the market for Seventh Tachyon. With how fast the second-hand market can shift, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see this card’s price value just take off to the moon.
