The prerelease week for Disney Lorcana’s ninth expansion, Fabled, is coming to a close. With the worldwide release right around the corner, it looks like Amethyst has been charging ahead in performance. Now it looks like this format is soon to favor one of the oldest cards currently in legal status for the Core Constructed format.
Madam Mim - Elephant

Madam Mim - Elephant is the story we’ve heard time and again. A relatively obscure card that is suddenly shifting in price because the competitive scene is now favoring its abilities.
Last month, this Super Rare card was sitting at less than half a dollar in overall market value. As August marched onwards, Madam Mim - Elephant climbed upwards. Then, after the prerelease week for the Fabled expansion, normal copies of this card practically doubled in price.
Currently, Madam Mim - Elephant sits at an average price of around $2, according to TCGplayer. While this might not seem like much, recently sales have been for significantly more. So far, Lorcana players have spent upwards of $8 on Madam Mim, and that's just for regular variants. Cold Foil copies, meanwhile, have been going for between $14 and $16.
At the moment, this card’s market trend is steadily trending up. Assuming this newfound popularity continues, Madam Mim could end up being rather expensive, since it was printed back in Shimmering Skies (the 5th set of the game). That said, that's assuming Ravensburger doesn’t just power creep this card out of existence with something better.
Pre-release Performance
On her own, Madam Mim - Elephant has a pretty enduring body with that 7 in Willpower. Her 3 in Strength lets her trade fairly well with any of the early game bodies, and her ‘Sneaky Move’ ability punishes any opponent that can’t get rid of her or her allies in a single challenge swing. Currently, this format is suffering from a drought of direct board removal. This makes Madam Mim - Elephant extra sticky in terms of her board presence.

When played with her in-house allies in Amethyst, Madam Mim - Elephant can easily bounce characters like Rafiki - Mystical Fighter or Genie - Wish Fulfilled to allow the controlling player to double-dip on their on-play effects.

The most devastating interaction within Amethyst is with the new Dumbo - Ninth Wonder of the Universe and The Magic Feather. With the capabilities she already has, Madam Mim - Elephant becomes an Evasive draw and lore engine as well as an oppressive board presence.
Currently, the format is still in the developmental phase, and while Amethyst has taken an early lead with some of the tournaments hosted during prerelease, it’s still too early to tell what ink-combination (and deck type) will truly establish itself as a dominating force in this cycle for Disney Lorcana.
