It looks like the Tellarknights are not the only legacy archetype to get a new wave of support in Terminal World 3. Come November 22nd, 2025, four new X-Sabers will be added to the Yu-Gi-Oh! OCG (Official Card Game).

Level 4, Earth

Beast-Warrior/Tuner/Effect Monster

You can only use the (1)st and (2)nd effect of this card's name each once per turn.

(1) If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can send it to the GY; Special Summon 2 “X-Saber” monsters from your Deck, except “X-Saber Perina”, but destroy them during the End Phase.

(2) If this card is sent to the GY as material for the Synchro Summon of an “X-Saber” monster: You can apply 1 of these effects.

● It can make a second attack during each Battle Phase.

● It can attack directly.

X-Saber Perina is the modern combo starter that the X-Saber archetype is desperately looking for. Experienced players may realize that Konami just decided to make an in-archetype version of Rescue Rabbit as X-Saber Perina shines as a main combo starter. As far as interactions go, the opponent has to spend a negate; otherwise, X-Saber Perina can immediately go into any extra deck play the controlling player wishes.

If a player pairs X-Saber Perina with Fire Formation - Tenki and XX-Saber Boggart Knight, that’s a decently-sized amount of starters you can draw into going first. Fire Formation - Tenki can already search out a fair number of the X-Saber Beast-Warrior roster members. Meanwhile, XX-Saber Boggart Knight, which is also a Beast-Warrior monster itself, can be a special summon target while dragging out another X-Saber body from the hand.

Quick effect synchro summoning is becoming more common for modern Yu-Gi-Oh!

Level 3, Earth

Psychic/Tuner/Effect Monster

You can only use the (1)st and (2)nd effect of this card’s name each once per turn.

(1) If this card is in your hand: You can banish 1 other EARTH monster from your hand, face-up field, or GY; Special Summon this card.

(2) If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can add 1 “Saber” Spell/Trap from your Deck or GY to your hand.

(3) Once per turn, during your opponent’s Main or Battle Phase, you can (Quick Effect): Immediately after this effect resolves, Synchro Summon using only EARTH monsters you control, including this card.

X-Saber Bruno is not quite as strong for starting a combo as X-Saber Perina, but it can be easily fished out with Emergency Teleport if need be. If left on the board, X-Saber Bruno can function as another line of defense.

Thanks to X-Saber Bruno’s quick synchro capabilities, the controlling player could potentially run the Trishula synchro monsters for some unexpected interruptions. If ever more bodies are needed to fuel these synchro summons, then the Millenium engine can easily be splashed in as a source of easy-to-summon Earth monster bodies.

Level 7, Earth

Warrior/Synchro/Effect Monster

1 Tuner + 1+ EARTH monsters

You can only use the (1)st, (2)nd, and (3)rd effect of this card’s name each once per turn.

(1) If this card is Synchro Summoned: You can add 1 “Saber” or “Gottoms” Spell/Trap from your Deck to your hand.

(2) When this card inflicts battle damage to your opponent: You can discard 1 random card from their hand.

(3) When your “X-Saber” monster is targeted for an attack while this card is in your GY: You can Special Summon this card, then change the attack target to it.

X-Saber Gottoms helps the X-Sabers access the more specialized, and arguably more powerful, Gottoms backrow cards, Gottoms' Second Call and Gottoms' Emergency Call, which are essentially the in-archetype Monster Reborn.

As per the nature of the X-Saber strategy, X-Saber Gottoms can also force the opponent to discard a card if battle damage is done. While this ability isn’t as good when going first, going second can allow X-Saber Gottoms to potentially delete two cards in hand if synchro summoned with X-Saber Perina.

X-Saber Gottoms’ third effect offers some flexibility as a combo extender or interaction point. Players going first can use X-Saber Gottoms to synchro climb and can either bring it back with the Gottoms' Second Call you just searched out or leave it in the graveyard as a potential safety net for when the turn shifts to the opponent. Either way, modern decks will definitely be playing this card if only for the access point to the Gottoms backrow cards.

Level 10, Earth

Warrior/Synchro/Effect Monster

1 Tuner + 1+ EARTH monsters

This card is always treated as an “X-Saber” card.

(1) Gains 200 ATK for each banished monster.

(2) When this card destroys a monster by battle: You can draw 1 card.

(3) Once per turn, when your opponent activates a card or effect (Quick Effect): You can Tribute 1 “X-Saber” monster; destroy 1 card they control.

(4) If this card would be destroyed by battle or card effect, you can banish 1 “Saber” card from your GY instead.

If X-Saber Gottoms leans towards a player going first, Commander Souza, Swordmaster definitely favors a player going second. By merit of its first and fourth effect, Commander Souza, Swordmaster can get pretty massive, given that a lot of your main deck monsters will be Earth X-Saber monsters. It will be pretty difficult to remove this synchro monster if the opponent doesn’t have direct access to a bounce, a banish, or a tribute effect.

Like X-Saber Gottoms, Commander Souza, Swordmaster can also take advantage of X-Saber Perina’s second effect and could recoup some card advantage if it can destroy two monsters on the field.

As far as modern additions go, Commander Souza, Swordmaster may not be a player’s first choice to use, but it definitely can be a good tech option depending on the match-up.
