Akira Toriyama is one of the greatest creatives to have ever lived. As the father of Dragon Ball, he's easily one of the biggest names in manga. Since the franchise has inspired video games, card games, t-shirts, tattoos, and people who like shouting so much they turn blonde, their influence is undeniable.

Sadly, Akira Toriyama passed away on March 11th, 2024, but their legacy will live on forever. This is thanks to not only Dragon Ball but also all of their other creations, including the Sand Land manga.

Despite not being as popular as Dragon Ball, Sand Land is four years old and absolutely fantastic. While only moving to the West in a big way recently, Sand Land is about to become a lot more prevalent. Not only is there a video game coming out in April, but there's a TCG coming out too!

Created by none other than Richard Garfield, this TCG already has a lot of weight behind it. In case you're not familiar with that name, Garfield originally created Magic: The Gathering, so there's clearly a lot of talent behind this new TCG project.

Named Sand Land Tactical Card Game, sadly, there are very few details about this game available right now. Despite this lack of information, we're nonetheless excited about what Garfield and Bandai Namco have up their sleeves. Since the Dragon Ball card games are each thoroughly entertaining, the deck definitely seems stacked in Sand Land's favor.

According to publisher Bandai Namco, the game will offer "long-term play with 1 purchase." While this sounds all well and good, it's unclear exactly how Bandai Namco and Garfield will achieve this lofty claim. Curiously, Sand Land TCG decks will be sold as blind boxes, that may contain one of ten preconstructed options.

On the game's shiny new website, the game's combat is described as using "8v8" assets, so we can expect to see a lot of creatures and fighting. While details are unclear at the moment, we're expecting to see something more akin to Runeterra or Yu-Gi-Oh than Magic: The Gathering, but we may be proven wrong

Currently, no global release date for the Sand Land TCG has been announced, however, it will be "available for early purchase" at Gen Con 2024. Since this event is scheduled to run from August 1st to August 4th, we can consider this the unofficial release date for now. Before this date, excited would-be players can look out for more details soon.
