It’s been some time since Ravensburger first teased us with information on Disney Lorcana’s upcoming 9th expansion, Fabled. Over the past few weeks, Ravensburger has been promising more details to come at Gen Con 2025 in Indianapolis, and they have finally delivered.

Returning Cards

While not the most exciting aspect for Fabled’s release, Ravensburger has been clear that Fabled will feature a lot of reprinted cards.

Out of Fabled's 204 card total, only 33 are functionally new cards. The rest are reprints.

In their Weekly Lorecast stream, Greg Tito and Ryan Miller, had revealed that Disney Lorcana’s Fabled expansion will feature a card roster of 204 cards. Out of this pool, 171 cards will be reprints from previous sets.

Part of Ravensburger’s reasoning behind this product design decision is twofold. Firstly, it’s to help out new, or even returning players, to Disney Lorcana to get a hold of staple cards that were found in previous sets. Secondly, it’s in preparation for Disney Lorcana’s set rotation for its main competitive format, Core Constructed.

The earlier sets for Disney Lorcana, such as The First Chapter, are notoriously hard to get hold of. Some of these sets have powerful staple cards that can easily shift the tempo of a game, like Strength of a Raging Fire.

As a part of the rules for Set Rotation, any cards reprinted in a legal set would also make their older versions legal for tournament use.

Some of the cards confirmed to be returning in Fabled include the previously mentioned Strength of a Raging Fire, Sisu - Daring Visitor, Cursed Merfolk - Urusula's Handiwork, and Maleficent - Monstrous Dragon.

One of Disney's classic roster members finally makes their debut in Disney Lorcana

It looks like ‘A Goofy Movie’ isn’t the only franchise being introduced in Fabled. One of Disney’s most beloved mascots, Dumbo, will be making his debut in Disney Lorcana’s 9th set.

Dumbo - The Flying Elephant, alongside one of his staunchest supporters, Timothy Q. Mouse - Flight Instructor, will be joining the Amethyst roster of the Disney Lorcana card pool.

Both cards feature an early game push with their relatively early to mid-game ink cost. Dumbo and Timothy also play around the Evasive keyword to solidify their board presence and the potential for early game pressure in the Lore race.

New Mickey and Minnie Mouse

The poster child cards for Fabled, Mickey Mouse - Brave Little Prince and Minnie Mouse - Sweetheart Princess have been finally revealed. With these spoilers, it looks like Ravensburger is trying to promote certain ink color combinations outside of just using the powerful Dual Ink cards.

Ravensburger is surreptitiously trying to influence certain ink color combinations with these kind of cards.

Mickey Mouse is a Floodborn Ruby character card with a massive amount of potential if you can play into a Shift line. Since Fabled heralds Set Rotation, howeve , Brave Little Prince’s Shift targets slim down by a pretty large margin.

Within Ruby alone, a player would be limited to using Courageous Sailor or Enthusiastic Dancer to take to the field first if they want to keep playing on ink curve. That said, if you can keep Brave Little Prince alive for two more turns, a second copy could be played on top of the previous one.

As for Sweetheart Princess, she’s surprisingly simple for what she does. Sweetheart Princess suffers from somewhat average stats for a 4-ink cost drop, but she’s a direct removal tool for an ink color (Amber) that doesn’t normally have access to such cards.

A Goofy Movie

Probably the most exciting aspect for Fabled, the ‘A Goofy Movie’ franchise will be making its debut in Disney Lorcana’s 9th expansion. With this, it looks like Ravensburger is pushing players into a Ruby-Emerald combination.

World's Greatest Rock Star has an design package that should be on a Legendary card.

Powerline - World's Greatest Rock Star is the greatest enabler for the revealed cards. A 6-ink cost character card is a hefty price for his stats (and Singer 9), but that Shift line is telling that there may be a way to cheat out this character a lot faster than normal.

Notably, Powerline’s strongest draw is his ability to cheat out Songs from the deck. He’s a very rare combination of power, economy, and card advantage in one card. And what’s actually criminal is that this card is just a Super Rare. This makes Powerline effectively a very accessible card for its abilities.

Some of the new Song cards coming in Fabled.

I2I and Stand Out are songs from the movie, and each one works well with Powerline himself. The former may turn players away because it helps the opponent as well as the controlling player. That said, players could run the odd one or two copies as a tech choice to close out a game when sitting at 18 Lore.

Stand Out will definitely be a lot more playable than I2I due to its cheaper cost, regardless of whether World’s Greatest Rock Star is used or not. The bonuses Stand Out gives will provide some staying power to characters, but we don’t know how viable a strategy that will be at the moment.

The Set Rotation at Fabled’s debut will shift around the overall strength of certain deck builds. Reprinted cards may control that shift a little, but we have yet to see the entire roster of expansion’s card pool to see what will be legal at tournaments or not.

At the very least, Stand Out is an inkable card, so even if a player does choose to run a full set of copies, they can still be used to fuel the rest of the deck if the board situation calls for the need to do so.
