It looks like we didn't have to wait long for more spoilers from Doom of Dimensions to be revealed. This time, Konami is giving us new support for Aki Izayoi’s signature monster card, Black Rose Dragon.

Good consistency tools, but probably not the combo starters you'd like to see.

Violence Witch (Left)

DARK Plant/Effect Monster

You can only use the 1st and 2nd effect of this card's name each once per turn.

(1) If you control “Black Rose Dragon”, a monster that mentions it, or a Plant Synchro monster: You can Special Summon this card from your hand.

(2) If this card is sent to the GY and a Synchro Monster is on the field: You can discard 1 card; Special Summon 1 Plant monster with 1500 or less DEF from your Deck, also you cannot Special Summon from the Extra Deck for the rest of this turn, except Synchro Monsters.

Twilight Rose Black Knight (Right)

Level 3 DARK Plant/Tuner/Effect Monster

You can only use the 1st and 3rd effect of this card’s name each once per turn.

(1) If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can Special Summon 1 “Black Rose Dragon” or 1 Level 4 or lower Plant monster from your GY, but its effects are negated.

(2) Plant monsters you control gain 1000 ATK while you control a Synchro Monster.

(3) You can target 1 other Plant monster you control; increase or decrease its Level by 1.

Both Violence Witch and Twilight Rose Black Knight are shoo-in dance partners for most of the main deck Rose Dragons.

Unfortunately for this newest pair, they make for solid extender cards but are a little suspect as combo starters. Normally, you’d be more inclined to reserve your normal summon for either Roxrose Dragon or Lonefire Blossom.

There can also be an argument for White Rose Dragon, but that’s usually if you’ve got the resources to spare already in hand or in the graveyard.

Violence Witch can easily bring itself out of the hand, so it’s definitely the easier of the two to use in a combo when starting. It also pairs well with the original Black Rose Dragon.

Once the latter clears the field, you can discard any card to bring out a Plant monster from the deck.

The ability to special summon straight from the deck is usually an effect that garners attention from players.

The synchro lock from Violence Witch, meanwhile, may be a bit of turn-off, but it does have the distinct “for the rest of this turn” clause; so this card can be sequenced around.

Twilight Rose Black Knight, on the other hand, can bring back a body from the graveyard. It can also turn any Plant-type monster into fairly formidable beatsticks depending on what's on the board.

Twilight Rose Black Knight’s effect is fairly generic, but it distinguishes itself by being a Tuner monster with level modulation.

This card can easily bring out the original Black Rose Dragon or can bring said dragon back to access the more powerful Ruddy Rose Dragon.

As far as additional support goes, these are two fairly solid tools. They add a level of consistency and versatility in accessing other cards. A player would have to decide if they'd need a full set of either or both cards, but that’s part of the deck-building process.

Added extension and a burn win condition.

Hate Rose Witch (Left)

Level 6 DARK Plant/Synchro/Effect Monster

ATK/ 1600 DEF/ 2400

1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner monsters

You can only use the 1st and 3rd effects of this card’s name each once per turn.

(1) If this card is Synchro Summoned: You can send up to 2 Plant monsters to the GY (1 from your Deck and 1 from your Extra Deck), also you cannot Special Summon from \ the Extra Deck for the rest of this turn, except Synchro monsters. (2) Plant monsters you control cannot be destroyed by effects.

(2) Plant monsters you control cannot be destroyed by effects.

(3) If a card(s) on the field is destroyed by card effect while this card is in your GY: You can Special Summon this card.

Bramble Rose Dragon (Right)

Level 7 FIRE Plant/Synchro/Effect Monster

1 Plant Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner monsters

You can only use the 2nd and 3rd effect of this card’s name each once per turn.

(1) Each time your opponent activates a monster effect, inflict 600 damage to them when that effect resolves, and if you do, all face-up monsters they control lose 600 ATK.

(2) During the Main Phase (Quick Effect): You can Tribute this card; Special Summon 1 “Black Rose Dragon” from your Extra Deck (this is treated as a Synchro Summon).

(3) You can banish this card from your GY; Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower Plant Tuner from your GY.

The two newest extra deck monsters for the Black Rose Dragon archetype enjoy the most generic of Synchro materials. With how Twilight Rose Black Knight can modulate levels, you can easily bring these two out.

Hate Rose Witch is a two-for-one Foolish Burial upon summon. This easily gets cards like Fengli the Soldrapom and Garden Rose Maiden into rotation for more extension. Like Violence Witch, if you’re using this card, you probably have a gameplan around the synchro lock.

Hate Rose Witch also continues the theme of playing well with the original Black Rose Dragon. Assuming this card is already in the graveyard, a player can nuke the field with Black Rose Dragon and easily get this card back for extension.

On that note, this witch also stops the controlling player’s monsters from getting wiped from Black Rose Dragon’s summoning as long as they’re Plant-type monsters. That’s pretty handy, given that Black Rose Dragon also clears the back row.

As for Bramble Rose Dragon, it’s got a good amount of solid effects despite its lack of protection and pretty lackluster statline.

A modern Yu-Gi-Oh! deck in the Trading Card Game (TCG) runs a host of effect monsters.

The opponent would have to find a way to get rid of Bramble Rose Dragon first before they bring themselves down to One-Turn-Kill (OTK) levels worth of lifepoints just by doing their full combo.

In addition, Bramble Rose Dragon can just bomb the entire field at any time due to its Quick-Effect speed synchro summon of the original Black Rose Dragon. If Bramble Rose Dragon makes it to the graveyard, it’s an easy recursion of a level 4 Plant Tuner monster.

As far as endboards go, you can easily pair these new additions with some negates like Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon and F.A. Dawn Dragster.

If the opponent can still play through all the burn damage and negates, you still have a 'Sword of Damocles' in the form of the original Black Rose Dragon waiting to be summoned at quick effect speed.

Will these two new synchro decks shake up the competitive scene of Yu-Gi-Oh? No, they won't; but they do provide fun match-ups and an opportunity for board interaction between players.

An unexpected but not unwelcome support.

Black Rose Garden

Continuous Spell Card

You can only activate 1 card with this card’s name per turn. You can only use the 3rd effect of this card’s name once per turn.

(1) When this card resolves, you can add 1 “Rose Dragon” monster from your Deck or GY to your hand.

(2) Face-up monsters on the field become Plant monsters.

(3) If this card is destroyed: Inflict 100 damage to your opponent for each Plant monster in your GY and banishment, then, if it was destroyed by the effect of “Black Rose Dragon”, inflict 2400 damage to them.

Black Rose Garden is the Reinforcement of the Army (RotA) for the sub-archetype of Rose Dragons. Not only that, but it’s a continuous spell card, so the opponent has to invest resources to get rid of this card or else it keeps generating more bodies.

This spell’s second effect is also a soft floodgate. A lot of strong tournament frontrunners, like Mitsurugi and Maliss, run cards that need to specifically use a certain monster type.

The former has in-house cards that need to use Reptile monsters, and while Black Rose Garden doesn’t affect monsters in the hand, it already puts a speedbump for the opponent to work around.

Maliss decks tend to run the @Ignister duo of Wizard and Backup, and these two specifically need ‘Cyberse’ monsters on the field.

As for its last effect, Bramble Rose Dragon’s value just skyrockets with Black Rose Garden on the field.

If a match is about to hit the time limit, a player could easily destroy this card with the original Black Rose Dragon and squeeze out a victory.

If time limit isn’t a concern, then 2,400 becomes the magic number for lethal if the opponent hasn’t been paying attention to the amount of damage they’ve been receiving already.
