Recently released on September 13, Stellar Crown is the most recent main set in the Pokémon TCG franchise. Now that players have access to packs, you may wonder what some of the most expensive cards you can pull look like! Each card has its own secondary market value and, with a little luck, you can open some surprisingly expensive cards.
All of the cards on this list will be Special Illustration Rare cards. Not every Special Illustration Rare in Stellar Crown is expensive, but there are some cards that, for various reasons, hold a decent price tag at the rarest rarity in the set.
Terapagos EX
The most expensive card you can find in a pack of Stellar Crown is a Special Illustration Rare Terapagos EX. Aside from being one of the featured cards in Stellar Crown, a lot of TCG enthusiasts believe that Terapagos could become a new competitive deck in the metagame.
Pokémon TCG personalities are already beginning to brew with Terapagos EX in mind. The card is capable of ending games in just two attacks, according to Twitter user Isaiah Bradner. Considering the card’s innate power, the fact that it's the feature card of the set, and the fact that this is the first time that Terapagos has appeared in the Pokémon TCG, the card’s Special Illustration Rare goes for $110.
Lacey
Lacey is next in the line of a series of broken Trainer cards. Special Illustration Rares of these cards are popular for two reasons. One, they feature some of the most beloved characters in the Pokémon franchise in beautiful artwork. Two, these cards are usually very good in competitive games. Lacey appears to be no different. Offering a fresh hand of eight cards if your opponent has three or fewer prize cards remaining, Lacey offers a ridiculous amount of card advantage with a little bit of setup. Even drawing four new cards can be quite powerful, especially if you’re using a deck that consistently empties all of its resources quickly. The Special Illustration Rare Lacey is currently going for around $50.
Squirtle
This Illustration Rare almost certainly has its price point because of its adorable artwork and collectibility. Being one of the original three starter Pokémon from the first generation, there are a lot of collectors out there who love Squirtle. Combined with this adorable artwork featuring Squirtle in a blow-up swimming pool, what’s not to love?
At the moment, it truly appears that there are no Squirtles seeing play in the Pokémon TCG metagame. As a result, this $41 card almost certainly has its price tag due to how adorable it is.
Hydrapple EX
Hydrapple certainly has some competitive potential. This Pokémon loves attaching green Energy to your Pokémon and some of the best Energy accelerators in competitive Standard currently accelerate Green Energy as well.
Of course, we’re talking about Teal Mask Ogerpon EX. This card can attach an extra green Energy to it every turn, and even draw a card to replace the Energy attached. Hydrapple EX cares about green Energy you have - wherever it may be attached. The more you have, the more damage Hydrapple can do.
While we’re unsure if Hydrapple is seeing any competitive play yet, it certainly has some synergies in the new set. For that reason, the Special Illustration Rare is currently going for about $34.
Bulbasaur
Another cute and cuddly collectible, Bulbasaur rounds out the five most expensive cards you can find in Stellar Crown Booster Packs. While all five of these cards are rather rare thanks to being Special Illustration Rares, they certainly look fantastic.
Bulbasaur appears to be expensive for the same reasons Squirtle is. The card is not seeing competitive play, but as another one of the three original starter Pokémon, there is certainly some collectibility behind this adorable card. Bulbasaur runs an asking price of about $30 at the moment.
