While the gameplay at any TCG World Championship is always riveting for super fans, that isn’t always the most exciting event to watch out for. It’s common for any TCG convention to take an opportunity to show its most passionate fans the plans for the future. This idea is commonly seen at MagicCons throughout the world. While a Pro Tour event is the main attraction from a gameplay perspective, many players are more excited about the preview panel announcements that come alongside it.

For the Pokémon TCG World Championships, things may be no different. A huge announcement was dropped during the event, showcasing some plans for the future of the TCG. Team Rocket may be returning alongside Trainer Pokémon to the Pokémon TCG!

Team Rocket Returns

A new teaser trailer for some future Pokémon cards was revealed at the Pokémon TCG World Championships. Trainer Pokémon, a type of Pokémon card that first appeared in the Pokémon TCG’s earliest days, has been confirmed to return to the world of Pokémon cards in 2025. Marnie’s Grimmsnarl, N’s Zororark and Reshiram, and Lillie’s Clefairy were among the revealed cards in this debut video. Interestingly, some of these are EX Pokémon, granting them powerful attacks and a ton of hit points.

The most interesting thing about this trailer, however, can be seen at the very last moment of it. Before fading to black, a quick flash of Team Rocket’s iconic R can be seen. A Mewtwo seems to flash behind the logo in quick succession. While this doesn’t 100% confirm anything, there is a strong chance that Team Rocket will be returning to the world of the Pokémon TCG in 2025. The most likely appearance of this is something like ‘Rocket’s Mewtwo EX,’ or ‘Giovanni’s Mewtwo EX.’

Regardless of what these new reveals have in store, players are excited to see what exactly will rock the world of Pokémon TCG following these announcements. If you’ve ever wanted to capture your favorite Pokémon Trainer’s Pokémon in a moment of time, you may now finally have your chance.
