All is still quiet in the environs of Disney Lorcana as we continue to our next stop through the top cards (by ink color) being played Post-Archazia’s Island. This time, we're are looking at Amethyst, an ink color synonymous with card draw.

5. Chernabog's Followers - Creatures of Evil

While consistent, there is a glaring hole when using this card against a skilled opponent.

Starting off, we have one of Amethyst’s easiest turn 1 drops. Chernabog’s Followers, on the surface, offers very little to its controlling player due to its obviously low stat line. Should this card be allowed to quest, however, it can offer more consistency to its deck.

Chernabog’s Followers used to be a very popular choice for Amethyst decks back during the Azurite Sea cycle but started to fall off a little as of late.

This is in part due to players realizing that the 1 turn it takes before Creatures of Evil can activate its draw effect could be capitalized on with early game removal like Let the Storm Rage On or Brawl.

Chernabog’s Followers is still a pretty solid card, though. While board presence is not its forte, it can easily shield some of its later allies by taking the brunt of any early game removal.

As an inkable card, Chernabog’s Followers can easily be played at maximum copies.

4. Genie - Wish Fulfilled

While useful that uninkable nature might force a player to run less than the maximum number of copies.

Genie - Wish Fulfilled is next on our list. It slightly ekes out Chernabog’s Followers, but only just. Having a bigger statline and Evasive, Genie’s staying power is definitely better than the Creatures of Evil.

While both Genie and Chernabog’s Followers allow their controlling player to draw a card, the former does so just by coming onto the field. This lack of window for interaction is why Genie is used more often.

Genie, however, is not without its own caveats. At 4 ink cost, this Amethyst card is uninkable. So, unlike Chernabog’s Followers, Genie is not the kind of card you want to see on the first or even second turn.

Even when you do get Genie on the board, his low strength means that he’s still susceptible to Brawl or a combination play featuring Sisu - Daring Visitor and Iceblock/Sapphire Coil.

That said, Genie’s contributions to the deck are still valuable. You just have a harder time justifying a reason to field anything more than 3 copies.

3. Merlin - Crab & Merlin - Goat

Two-sides, the same character.

It’s starting to become a trend that some of the most popular cards of an ink color tend to be from the same character. Like in our previous article, we’re bending the rules once again as we’re having both versions of Merlin, Crab & Goat, sharing a spot.

Both versions of Merlin offer two very distinct options, but this is wholly dependent on the main win condition of the deck they’re used in. Crab’s ability to add a hefty Challenger 3 makes board presence a hard thing to build for the opponent.

As for the Goat, if the deck is focused on the lore race, then this definitely speeds up the win condition.

Both Merlins offer rather robust stats for their ink cost, limiting the number of ways the opponent can get rid of them right away. Both these cards being inkable in nature makes it a personal preference to see which one is being run more often.

2. Diablo - Obedient Raven

Either you get rid of him or you don't, it's still a painful choice to make as the opponent.

Emerald isn’t the only ink color that Diablo can be found in, as he has an established presence in Amethyst as well.

The Obedient Raven is the turn 1 drop that Chernabog’s Follower’s wishes it could be. With a draw function more akin to a defense mechanism, Diablo’s controlling player can easily keep questing with Diablo for a two-pronged threat.

This places the opponent in a precarious spot as they must choose how to address Diablo - Obedient Raven. Either they let the bird stay on the board for a constant uptick of 1 lore a turn, or they get rid of Diablo and let the opponent dig into their deck that much faster.

It’s a pretty bad situation to be in as the opponent, all things considered. To make matters worse, if the partner ink color for Amethyst is Emerald, then Obedient Raven can open a line of play to Devoted Herald.

It may not be the most optimum play all the time for Amethyst-Emerald, but there’s still no denying how advantageous it is to be the first player to access 3 ink cost songs.

1. Madam Mim - Fox

She really punches above her perceived weight class.

Solidifying her spot at the top of the heap with her straightforward design is Madam Mim - Fox.

That 4 strength, coupled with Rush, easily allows her to punch most early to mid-game character drops the moment she hits the field. With a little help from Merlin - Crab, the Fox can start getting rid of even late-game characters, like Tamatoa - Happy as a Clam, as well.

This high potential for strength solidifies Madam Mim - Fox as one of, if not the, strongest 3 ink cost characters currently in Disney Lorcana. With her ability to bounce an ally, Madam Mim just doubles the value of any on-play effects like Wish Fulfilled or Merlin - Goat.

That’s it for Amethyst's top played cards. Overall, a solid performance as each card in this list is a good representation of the ink color’s most renowned characteristic: a mysticism like a never-ending bag of tricks. A little fitting, given Amethyst’s constant love for drawing cards.
