Much to the delight of many in the community, Ravensburger has surreptitiously awarded a golden foil copy of Mickey Mouse - Brave Little Tailor to a player from the most recent Disney Lorcana Challenge.
Quickly recapping the story, last week saw local Illumineers (the in-lore term used to refer to players of the Trading Card Game) participate in a regional tournament held by Ravensburger. A player by the name of Jesse Lentini reached the upper brackets of tournament winners, but before too long, Jesse was finally defeated. Unfortunately, the tale took a controversial spin when some decisions outside of his control may have cost Jesse his place in the top four of the tournament.
A week later, Jesse has come forward to more vocal members of the community to say that Ravensburger has emailed him about the event and is now preparing to send him a “Golden Mickey”. This term is a reference to the golden foil version of Mickey Mouse - Brave Little Tailor. This is a card whose existence is roughly limited to about five hundred serialized copies that we know of to date and are usually awarded to winners of regional or national organized tournaments.
The Golden Mickey is considered valuable among collectors. So far, online auction houses have seen the card’s value reach higher than twenty thousand dollars while other promotional versions of the same card are being sold in the hundreds for a single copy. For context, a promotional copy of Mickey Mouse - Brave Little Tailor sees a market value of anywhere upwards of eight hundred dollars. This card is already considered a rare commodity in Disney Lorcana’s rarity system, so the Golden Mickey definitely holds a special place in any collection as a particularly crowning gem.
Disney Lorcana saw its initial release back in 2023 with its “The First Chapter” set. So far, sealed booster boxes of “The First Chapter” are easily going over a thousand dollars for a set of four. And with the anticipated release of the new Archazia’s Island expansion set, who knows exactly what the market trend will look like in the future?
